Not every job of work will see a writer wandering off on assignment or playing with the latest high-tech gadgets. Every day objects like heaters, water bottles and winter boots need attention too--ensuring that my readers are given the information they needed to buy themselves the very best of everything--both experiences and hardware--is one of the most important functions of my job as a travel and technology writer.
To do this job right, sometimes you've just got to spend some time with a shitty lamp.
The Aukey Eye-Care is such a lamp. It's not that it doesn't light up--it totally does. And it offers a number of different illumination levels to boot. Unfortunately, that's about the only thing that this $30 beauty does well. It feels cheap, started coming apart as I was testing it and is top heavy enough that it topples over if you extend the gooseneck out too far from the base. Seriously, avoid this thing.
