It's a rare treat to be able to speak to an artist that you grew up listening to. In 2015, I was able to enjoy that treat twice.
Back in April, I spoke to George Millar on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Irish Rovers. At the time, he told me that the band was settling into retirement: less time on the road, less recording. The lads were getting old and it was time for a rest.
Fast forward to December. In the months since our jaw wag, Millar tells me that the band has filmed a new DVD, a record of children's songs and a full-on album of Scots music that's due for release this year. I hope I'm as productive as he and the rest of the band when I get to be Millar's age.
Anyway, if you're of a mind to track it down in print, the story can be read in the December/January double issue of Irish Music Magazine.
