Back in June, Apple promised that regular slobs like you and I could participate in a public beta of OS X Yosemite, the latest version of their Mac computer operating system. But what's a beta, and why would anyone want to take part in one? Both are valid questions that not everyone is tech savvy enough to have an answer to.
So, as the Yosemite beta program comes closer to bearing fruit for the thousands of people who have applied to participate in it, I took the time to explain the pros and cons of diving into the wild and wooly world of using beta software. Along the way, I also point out some of the best new features I've seen so far in the Yosemite I've been using for some time now.
