I actually started the work on this guide back in January 2014. But thanks to a number of high priority projects, my taking a month to walk across Spain and moving back to the West coast this fall, my update to the Wirecutter's guide to The Best Cordless Phones didn't get published until December. Happily, cordless phones are a slow moving hardware category: Not a whole lot happens with them from year-to-year. In order to sort this job of work out, I dumped 50 hours of research into figuring out which pieces of hardware to look at tested extensively and consulted with an electrical engineer who specializes in radio frequency technology and teaches Navy SEALS how to construct improvised antennas for use in the field.
One of the things I love about writing for The Wirecutter and The Sweethome is that it affords me the opportunity to dive deep into the topics I cover and transform the banal into something a little bit more interesting. This is a perfect example of that.
